Tanabata Festival
Amigos Multi-cultural Pre-school
During this week of activities based around the festival of Tanabata, under-5s at this multi-cultural pre-school learnt about the Japanese way of life, language, stories, songs and origami.
They designed their own kimono and made tanabata decorations including, tanzaku, lanterns and paper chains to hang on a bamboo tree.
At an open day, the children performed the tanabata song, with a dance and musical accompaniment. They learned greetings and how to count in Japanese as well as making sushi.
The week had a great impact on the children, who still spontaneously recount events and things that they learned.
