Katharine Lady Berkeley's School
Year Seven Activity Days - Orient Expression
Elaine Cooper, a local artist, attended on the first day and led a workshop in which pupils constructed their own Japanese-style kites. Pupils made these from scratch, learning the principles of bamboo/paper construction and of traditional Japanese design.
On the third day, three members of Kage musha, an Exeter taiko group, led a drumming workshop. Pupils learnt some of the ideas behind taiko drumming and spent three hours learning techniques and rhthms. In th afternoon, they gave a short performance to a group of their peers and members of staff.
