Japanese Superlearning Festival (Tanabata)
Arts Learning North West
Over 250 pupils from 7 schools took part in this major project in the North West of England. Workshops were devised and led by staff at the schools involved and outside experts.
The ambitious and varied programme of workshops included karaoke, feltmaking, haiku, kimono, dance, making nebuta, theatre make-up, language, Japanese cityscape art, food, koinobori, drama, calligraphy and taiko.
The pupils attending the event encountered a variety of different aspects of Japanese life, art and culture, both through the workshops and through the supporting materials, presentation and food.
Teachers benefitted from the opportunity to share practice, work together and learn more about Japanese art and culture. Good links were created with the Japanese community in the North West.
