Taiko to Achieve
The Achievement Zone, Stoke-on-Trent
Visiting artists-in-residence worked with eight schools around Hanley to create art and drama related to Japan.
This included performing arts, dance and creative artwork (masks, kites, origami, costume etc), poetry and story telling.
During the Autumn term 2004, work took place on a taiko project. Following initial workshops with Mugenkyo, groups from each school rehearsed and developed their own individual piece of music, before another period of intensive workshops at the end of term.
The project culminated in a performance at the Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent on 26 January 2005. The venue was decorated with pupils' work including paper hangings and decorations from workshops with Elaine Cooper, poems and stories.
