British Council Japan-related programmes
The British Council organises a number of programmes relating to Japan. Please see the British Council website Japan pages or download their Japan Newsletter (1mb pdf file) for full details.
Language Immersion Course
The Japanese immersion course gives UK students a chance to use their language skills in an authentic environment, and gain an insight into Japanese culture. It is hosted by a university and consists of language lessons on campus in the morning, and cultural activities in the afternoon. Participants are expected to pay for the cost of their own travel. The next immersion course takes place February 2009 - the deadline has yet to be confirmed as of yet.
School Based Projects
Grants are available for schools to undertake Joint Curriculum Projects with linked institutions in Japan. These projects can take different forms. For example, some may require the mobility of teaching staff, involve large numbers of students over an extended period, adopt a cross curricular approach or support the participation of a cluster of schools. The deadline for the last set of applications has already passed, but please make sure to check the website for when the new applications begin.
School Partnership Visits
Funding is available for one member of staff to visit their Japanese partner school to establish and develop curriculum links which will enable collaborative work between the students.
Language Assistants
The British Council can recruit language assistants from Japan for your school.
