The SOAS Noh Group was set up in 1991 by Dr. David W. Hughes, Senior Lecturer at the Ethnomusicology, Department of Music, SOAS, University of London. In the period leading up to the Japan Festival in (1991), SOAS invited Dr. Richard Emmert and Akira Matsui over from Japan to hold a workshop. The workshop participants then went on to give a demonstration of the Noh at the Japan Festival in Hyde Park.

The group was formally re-established and became an official participant in Japan 2001 performing and giving workshops all over England. They continue these activities to this day.

SOAS Noh Group regularly practises singing, dancing and music at SOAS, University of London, every first Monday of the month 7 pm to 8.30 pm.

New participants are always welcome and the Noh Group is also able to carry out occasional school workshops.
