Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers was established in 1994 by Neil Mackie and Miyuki Williams, who had previously trained under Masaaki Kurumaya Sensei in Fukui, Japan. Mugenkyo perform over 100 concerts a year throughout the UK at theatres and concert halls, and is the only professional touring taiko group in Europe.

The Mugen Taiko Dojo is the educational organisation set up by members of Mugenkyo in 2002 and is also the first purpose-built taiko drumming centre in the UK. The Mugen Taiko Dojo's extensive outreach programme takes taiko workshops and performances into the heart of communities throughout the UK. The Dojo's schools outreach teachers are Teresa Brookes and Georgie Harris, both professional players with Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, who lead introductory hands-on workshops, long-term projects leading to a performance, and educational concerts in schools.
